- Incorporation of a new PhD student (January 2022) at Bilbao LTC ÆNIGME site
Edgardo Irazu Anza will work on the abrasive machining of ceramic matrix composites. Ceramic Matrix Composites are mainly used in friction materials and high-temperature materials.
For the development of future zero-emission aircraft, the use of ceramic matrix composite materials will be necessary, in particular for the hot parts (engine, fuselage, leading edge, etc.). In the production chain for CMC components, the weak link is the machining, which can generate defects and have a strong influence on the in-service behavior of these components.
The LTC has a strong experience on abrasive machining which can be the solution to this challenge.
The activity will focus on the influence of abrasive machining conditions on the in-service behavior of the CMC both in static than in dynamic conditions.
Irazu will work with Unai Alonso Pinillos and Borja Izquierdo in Bilbao, Madalina Calamaz, Olivier Cahuc and Mehdi Cheriff in Bordeaux.
